The 2024 PGA Championship begins on Sunday, May 19, 2024 (4/19/24) with the final round of the competition at the Valhalla Golf Club, in Louisville, Kentucky.

The second major of the year is now underway at Valhalla Golf Course in Louisville, Kentucky, as defending champion Brooks Kopeka looks to win the tournament for the fourth time.

Scottie Scheffler arrives in Kentucky as the overwhelming favorite and for good reason. The world number one has started the year in sensational fashion, claiming victories at the Arnold Palmer Invitational, The Player’s Championship, the RBC Heritage and of course the Masters at Augusta National.

The 27-year-old is certainly the form player but there are plenty of contenders for the crown at the PGA Championship. Keopka recently won an LIV Golf League event in Singapore and has previously won this event on three occasions, including last year at Oak Hill Country Club when he finished two shots clear of Scheffler and Viktor Hovland.

Rory McIlroy is a former champion at Valhalla, claiming a one-shot victory the last time the tournament was held there in 2014, while 15-time major winner Tiger Woods continues his return to competitive action as he seeks to win the event for a record fifth time.

Jordan Spieth, Jon Rahm, Bryson DeChambeau and Cameron Smith will also be looking to add to their major hauls, while the likes of Xander Schauffele, Max Homa and Ryder Cup star Ludvig Åberg are all looking to make the PGA Championship their maiden major title.

After a bogey-free round of 62 and a more modest 68 on day two, Xander Schauffele birdied the last two holes of his third round to close a second successive 68 at Valhalla Golf Club and move to 15 under.

The American is tied for the lead with Collin Morikawa, with Sahith Theegala just one shot back after another solid round. However, it was Shane Lowry who grabbed the headlines on moving day after producing a stunning round of 62 to move to 13-under. The Irishman is joined on 13-under by Bryson DeChambeau and Viktor Hovland.

The attention starts building weeks, if not months, ahead of the one major keeping Rory McIlroy from the career Grand Slam, the most elite club in golf. It’s like that every year, and it doesn’t make it any easier when he gets to the Masters.

Scottie Scheffler tries to extend his dominance with a second straight major. Brooks Koepka is the defending champion and coming off a LIV Golf win in Singapore. Jon Rahm turned in a dud at the Masters and curious eyes will want to see at Valhalla if that was an aberration.

Heading into the final round at Valhalla, Xander Schauffele and Collin Morikawa are tied for the lead with their eyes set on the second major of the year.

Schauffele has held at least a share of the lead after each round since his record-tying 62 on Thursday, and is hoping to capture his first major on Sunday. Morikawa is going for his second PGA title and third major overall.

Scheffler, the top ranked golfer, was arrested and jailed Friday morning but still made his tee time. Despite the chaotic morning, the new dad managed to put himself right in the mix at the top of the standings.

He moved all the way up into a tie for fourth place to make the cut, but Saturday was a bit tougher for him. Scheffler dropped from fourth at the beginning of Day 3 all the way down into a five-way tie for 24th.

Xander Schauffele stayed at the top of the leaderboard, but he's joined by Collin Morikawa at 15-under par. The duo will play together in the final pairing, teeing off at 2:35 p.m. ET.

Right behind Schauffele and Morikawa is Sahith Theegala, who posted a second consecutive 3-under round to move to 14-under for the tournament. Shane Lowry surged into contention by shooting a record-tying 9-under 62 during the third round. At 13-under, Lowry is tied with Bryson DeChambeau and Viktor Hovland as they head into the final round.

One day after being arrested and charged with felony assault after what he called a miscommunication with a police officer, Scottie Scheffler fell back by posting a 2-over-par round Saturday.

Seeking his first career major, Viktor Hovland is on an absolute heater, converting birdies on six of his last nine holes and three in the last four.

Hovland is not missing many shots and he is flushing his putts with confidence. On No. 13, he faced a 15-foot putt for birdie and sole possession of first and there was no doubt that it would go in as soon as he struck it.
