The Avalanche have crumbled in their series with the Stars, losing three in a row to skid towards the brink of elimination. Having topped the scoring charts in the regular season and exploded into this series with seven goals in two games, their offensive production has fallen off a cliff.
If we're being kind to the Avs, it appears that Valeri Nichushkin's sudden suspension has had an effect on the team. But tonight's clash at American Airlines Center is Jared Bednar's last chance to shake them out of their funk.
They were awful last time out, going down by 5-1 despite Alexandar Georgiev coming up with 29 saves, and two goals from two games sums up just how badly they've struggled.
The Presidents' Trophy winners, meanwhile, are 3-2 up and one more win away from the conference finals, but the Hurricanes gave them a real thrashing on Monday. Up until then, every game had been decided by one goal, but a 4-1 win should get the Canes' tails up.
